National Service Scheme

The NSS unit of Raid Laban made its humble beginning in the year 1991 with the able guidance of first NSS Programme Officer Prof. R. Chokroborty who initiated a NSS Camp NEHU on 27-04-1991, in the same year, Anti Aids Camping was held in the college in collaboration with World Health Organization (WHO) and Department of Health and Family Welfare to initiating an experimental Sensitization Campaign on AIDS/STD for the students. In the same year, during the month of November the NSS College Unit was involved in collecting relief materials for the Earthquake affected people in Uttar – Kashi. In the year 1992 4th April NSS unit of the college celebrated NSS Celebration Day. On 20th August, 1992 the College NSS Unit Celebrated Sadbhavana Divas. On 27th August 1992, joint Tree Plantation Camp was held, under Quami Ekta Week College celebrated National Integration Day, Welfare of Minorities Day, Linguistic Harmony Day, Cultural Unity Day, Women’s Day, Conservation Day from 19th November to 25th November 192. In the year 1993 NSS Silver Jubilee National Integration Camp for Pre Public Day Parade at Pune where Miss. Rihuney Swer was selected to Participate in the Camp. In the year 1994 college has celebrated Silber Jubilee year of the NSS.

On 20th August 1994 and extensive programme on the occasion of observance of Sadbhavana Divas and Communal Harmony Fortnight and also the 50th Birth Anniversary of Late Shri. Rajiv Ghandhi, Ex Prime Minister of India. The then Hon’ble state Minister of Education & Excise, Govt of Meghalaya Shri. T. C. Lyngdoh grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. On the occasion of National Service Scheme Silver Jubilee a special Camp was organized in collaboration with Raid Laban College and the Mawpynthaw Presbyterian High School Nongkrem on 27th September 1994. From the year 1994 onward the NSS College Unit has initiated variety of Programme and regular Clean Up Drive in the college campus. On 5th June 2002 NSS unit of the College has organized an district level seminar on “Environmental Crisis”. An Ethical perspective” to commemorate World Environment Day, Prof (Mrs) Sujata Miri, then Dean, school of Humanities and Education, NEHU, Shillong inaugurated the Seminar, an extensive Tree plantation was followed by the Seminar.
